Spending ban: week 8

So…that spending ban I've been on since January 1 of this year?

Broke it.

Spending ban: week 8

A few days ago I spotted the Maybelline Spring 2014 Nude Color Tattoos. Not only was the display nearly full, but there was a manufacturer's coupon for $2 off any Maybelline item. I put the CTs in my basket headed up to the cashier…and for some reason, she rang them up at $3.99 each. And then she added the $2-off coupon, which DID NOT have a “only one coupon per purchase” limit. I got LE Color Tattoos for just $2 each.

I've been keeping an eye out for these ever since I first heard of them, but store after store only had all the other parts of the Spring 2014 Nude collection (the face powders, the cheek tints, the lipcolors, the nail polishes) but no Color Tattoos anywhere in evidence. Knowing how fast these generally go, and knowing that these were limited edition, I had already decided ahead of time to let myself break my spending ban only for these items. Everything else could wait.

Last week was what also might be termed “busy” by just about any standards. I started a new job - and while the team that I work with seems populated with genuinely cool people, the first week on a new job is always kind of a blur. Second, I had to put two of my cats to sleep last week. Ursa and Fog both had kitty-colds since week six of the spending ban, but the colds got a lot worse. Toward the end, neither of them was eating, and Fog was really jaundiced, so something else was going wrong as well. By the time I took them into the vet for a second time in a week (technician's appointment, to help me with force-feeding and to administer subcutaneous fluids) Ursa was in serious condition and needed hospitalization that would cost over $1,000 - and I'd maxxed out my CareCredit a month before, paying for Ursa's hyperthyroid treatment. Fog would also have needed hospitalization, but since they didn't totally know what was causing the liver problems, there would have also been lab work - which may or may not have given them the information they needed to save her. I knew I was starting my new job (after 7 months of unemployment,) but I also knew that the start date had been delayed twice already - AND that no matter when I started, it would be three weeks before I saw a paycheck from that job. When Ursa had a seizure, worse than he'd had before, and was struggling to even breathe, I knew it was time to let him go. I spent the weekend reeling from that shock, and on Monday prepared to go to the new job on Tuesday. A neighbor said that she'd stop in twice a day to check on my two remaining kitties, make sure they were okay and that they got attention while I was away at work.

So…yeah. It was A Week. (If I hadn't had posts queued up and scheduled, there would have been nothing on the blog last week.)

I still have my list of things I want to get after the spending ban. It's not gigantic, but it's got a few bits on there. I want to get Silk Naturals' Bare Necessities 3 - because while the other UD Naked-clones didn't appeal to me much, I love rose-toned nudes. (Which is kind of amusing, considering my cool-toned coloring. But there you go.) I want to get some of the newer colors from Stila's Smudge Stick eyeliner collection. I am also debating breaking the spending ban for one other set of items: Sally Hansen's Spring 2014 CSM polishes. But the stores around me are being slow enough to put them out on display, I can possibly safely wait until the end of the spending ban to pick those up. I'd like to get the new Infallible Eyeshadow colors from L'Oreal; but those are additions to the permanent line, so - again - I can wait until the spending ban is over.

I'm having fun going through purchases I made a while ago from TKB Trading, but never got around to repotting. I've got the Cafe and Firestarter collections, and the Star Bites and Moon Dust glitters (one of which, Marinda Moon, is now discontinued. Go me!! I've got the original!!) It's been a little bit hard, though, because I really miss both Fog and Ursa when I'm repotting or swatching. Ursa loved the whole process (don't ask me why) and he'd sit next to me to supervise. Fog just liked sitting in the room with me, on the far side of the chair so that BabyJ would possibly be less likely to slip past and harass her again in the name of “I'm seven years younger than you and I'm bored, play with me!!!”
