TKB Trading’s Emerald

TKB Trading’s Emerald

The classic “Christmas-tree green” shade - a medium-deep shade with cool tones, and verging on a metallic finish. There's a very slight blackening to this color (which is more visible when applied dry than when foiled), but it's not intense enough that there's a great deal of residue left behind...

Zoya’s Myrta

Zoya’s Myrta

Posted on Wednesday, at

When this collection was released, Myrta was not on my list of colors to buy because it looked too orange. I look better wearing cooler reds. Orange-reds make the skin on my fingers and hands look redder, and the warmer undertones don't work for me overall. The formula is fine,...

Color Club’s Safari Sunset

Color Club’s Safari Sunset

Posted on Wednesday, at

This is the only color I'll be getting from the Safari Garden collection - not because of problems with the formula, just because the other shades don't appeal to me personally. Safari Sunset, though…is AMAZING! It was one of two shimmer-finishes in the entire collection (also one of the...

Sally Hansen’s A Wink of Pink (821)

Sally Hansen’s A Wink of Pink (821)

Very pale creme - almost a white matte. The formula is a bit on the thick side, and displays brushstrokes a bit too much for my liking. It's thick enough to work well with nail art and stamping, though, it's perfect for that. It's a great transitional shade for those...

Beauty from the Earth’s Wine Country collection

Beauty from the Earth’s Wine Country collection

Posted on Tuesday, at

This was not formally released as a collection, but on Facebook Kimberly commented that these four colors were themed…so I took the ball and ran with it. The color combination is similar to the old Soulmate collection: two purples and a cream-white, with an additional shade. They actually coordinate...

Meow Cosmetics’ Alien Abduction collection

Meow Cosmetics’ Alien Abduction collection

Posted on Tuesday, at

An awful lot of neutrals and cools in this collection - very few warmer colors, though there are some brighter greens and one amazingly vibrant blue. The “abductee” shade was different in 2010 and 2011, I think it was the same color in 2012 and 2013. (We’ll have to watch and see if 2014...

BareMinerals’ Madras

BareMinerals’ Madras

Not my favorite shade. It's got decent coverage, a quasi-pearl finish, and it doesn't fade. It also applies almost true-to-potted color, a little bit of softening but not too much. This is a warmer brown, though, almost red-clay brown, which is not a great shade on me.

Star Crushed Minerals’ Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Star Crushed Minerals’ Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

This...is an odd color. There are scattered bits of silver-blue sparkle in the shadow, but they're not very visible, and they're sparse. The color is much better looking when this shade is applied dry, and stippled on rather than swept. It initially stays fairly saturated, but sadly has a...

Femme Fatale Cosmetics’ Amber Eyes

Femme Fatale Cosmetics’ Amber Eyes

Posted on Monday, at

This very quickly became one of my “daily” shades! It gives me just a little color, but not enough to look dark or overly obvious. The duotone shimmer catches the light and brightens my eyes a little bit, though not too much (one of the hazards of hooded lids.) I...

TKB Trading’s Hot Step Mama

TKB Trading’s Hot Step Mama

Posted on Monday, at

Made to replace Step Mama, when that incredibly popular product…was unavailable from the manufacturer, I guess? I'm not sure. But at any rate, for a while, TKB had this color available for purchase but NOT Step Mama. (Now, you can pick one or the other, or both.) Hot Step...
