MAC’s Viva Glam Cyndi lipstick

MAC’s Viva Glam Cyndi lipstick

Posted on Monday, at

On the one hand…yay, there's a less costly duplicate (and one that's easier to get than VG Cyndi, which is periodically out of stock)!! On the other hand…this is part of MAC's Viva Glam line, and all the money from the sale of Viva Glam lipsticks and lipglasses goes to the MAC AIDS Fund, which helps men, women, and children living with HIV and AIDS. So I feel a little bit badly about discovering a dupe for a...

Morgana Cryptoria’s Coraline’s Kiss lipstick

Morgana Cryptoria’s Coraline’s Kiss lipstick

I had seen several bloggers rave about this color as being coral but not too coral, so I ordered it. I was concerned that it would be more orange-toned, like the Coraline eyeshadow (which I love). It's a great color, though!

MAC’s Big Bow lipstick

MAC’s Big Bow lipstick

Big Bow was the first color to catch my eye from this collection. It's a much brighter, almost-neon hot pink in person. The promotional photos made it look more sedate! Like all of the Hello Kitty items, it has HK-branded packaging, and Hello Kitty is actually stamped into the lipstick itself.

Morgana Cryptoria’s Rose Plum

Morgana Cryptoria’s Rose Plum

I selected Rose Plum on a whim: I wanted a cooler lip color, was trying Morgana's lipsticks for the first time…and there was a sale going on. I fell in love with the color almost instantly. It looks like it might be similar to BE's Buxom Fresno - which would be ironic, since I have problems wearing Fresno because it's such a dark color. Yet this lipstick became an instant favorite! It wasn't until a Twitter conversation, where I...

MAC’s Most Popular lipstick

This was the “sedate” red released with the Hello Kitty collection. Big Bow, a semisheer hot pink, and Strayin', a deep fuchsia, were good colors…but not necessarily work appropriate (at least, not for meeting with clients or higher-ups.)

MAC’s Strayin’ lipstick

MAC’s Strayin’ lipstick

I don't own Morgana's Azalea, and so cannot make an accurate visual comparison; but based on the similarities between Strayin' and Azalea Blue, and the differences of the photos of (and descriptions) of Azalea and Azalea Blue, I'm going to guess that Morgana's Azalea is a fairly close color-match to Strayin'. Azalea will be more pigmented, but the color match should be close.

Morgana Cryptoria’s Azalea Blue lipstick

Morgana Cryptoria’s Azalea Blue lipstick

Azalea Blue is a bit intimidating-looking in the tube; but apply it lightly and blot, and you can get good coverage without the color being too dark. (Or apply it as you'd apply any lipstick, and a single coat will give you full opacity and coverage.) Azalea Blue is just slightly darker, just slightly more blued, than Strayin'. The pigmentation level can be matched by applying Azalea Blue more lightly, or by blotting. The blue level…I don't own Azalea,...

Morgana Cryptoria’s Cotton Candy lipstick

Morgana Cryptoria’s Cotton Candy lipstick

There's a slight similarity to MAC's limited-edition color Big Bow…but not enough for me to actually list these as dupes. Both are lighter, hot pinks; both have the blue sparkle. If you really wanted to get Big Bow because it looked like the perfect color, check out Cotton Candy. They're not exact, they're not even necessarily as close as some of the other Morgana-to-MAC dupes that I've found. But they are similar. They're also both similar in that they're...
