This color’s fairly sheer, so don’t get it for the base color. Get it for the iridescent sparkle and the fact that it’s a good purple highlighter…when so many other highlight shades are pink, yellow, or some whiteish shade.

There’s just enough heft for this color to be used on its own, if you either layer it or apply over a colored base. But - at least on my lids - it’s more of the sparkle and a hint of color than the other way around.

Shiro Cosmetics’ Mew
  • Manufacturer: Shiro Cosmetics
  • Availability: part of the Super Effective collection
  • Color Range: bright strawberry-pink shimmer
  • Staying Power: 4 out of 4 stars
  • Cost/Amount: USD$5 for 1.8 - 2.0 grams
  • Would you purchase again: yes
  • Similar shades:

This color was a bit pinker than I was expecting, from the photographs. I’ve been looking for a good soft coral eyeshadow (I know, I’m weird), and thought that this might be it. While Mew is a nice color…it’s not precisely what I was looking for.

Adhesion is excellent, and opacity is good - which is a changeup from most company’s pink eyeshadows. Faint sheen finish, not really an all-out shimmer, but not just a straightforward “oh it’s another one” pink. There’s a slight coral tone to it, so if you adamantly don’t like how warm pinks and reds look with your skintone, you might want to choose a different color. If you’re fine with neutral pinks, though, or just want to move outside your comfort zone, this is a good choice.

NOTE: This color was discontinued in 2012.

BareMinerals’ High Shine Electric
  • Manufacturer: Bare Escentuals (purchase)
  • Availability: part of the regular line
  • Color Range: muted evergreen matte
  • Staying Power: 3 out of 4 stars
  • Cost/Amount: $16 for .05 ounces / 1.5 grams
  • Would you purchase again: yes
  • Similar shades:

One of the first colors in the “regular” high shine collection. It looks like a dark teal, but it actually applies as a medium blue with hints of teal. The finish is similar applied wet or dry. Just don’t use the applicator that comes with these shadows, or you’ll end up with fallout and patchy application…and flaking throughout the day. (Lots of users have complained of this, so I know - for once - that it isn’t just me.)
