OPI’s Pros and Bronze

OPI’s Pros and Bronze

Posted on Wednesday, at

I spotted this color in a beauty outlet store and fell in love. It’s a gorgeous pinky-bronze shade, a bit like MAC’s Pink Bronze pigment in nail polish form. It is mainly a bright, almost glowing bronze with pinky red shifts on the curve of the nail - almost like a duochrome effect. The texture is interesting, too - there’s a kind of semi-pointillism effect, very similar to Warm and Fozzie. The woman at the counter mentioned...

Maybelline’s Boho Gold

Maybelline’s Boho Gold

Posted on Wednesday, at

The blue/gold duochrome polish trend continued well into 2011 and 2012 with China Glaze, Maybelline, and Sally Hansen each adding their versions. Boho Gold has a bit of colorshift, but it’s not as strong as the original peridot. There’s also just a bit more blue than green. The main color was a definite gold, not quite as much bronze tones as Peridot. Like Pink Cosmo, this polish required several coats for full opacity. I lost some of the duochrome...

Beauty from the Earth’s Blushing Bride kit

Beauty from the Earth’s Blushing Bride kit

This was one of the last “rewards-redemption” kits I was interested in. The color palette was very very naturalistic, and I wasn’t too interested in any of the shades. Then I got a sample size of Sweet n Sassy and liked the color enough to use my points on this kit. I figured that even if I didn’t care much for the brown, the off-white would be a decent highlight, and I was already in love with the...

OPI’s Serena Glam Slam US kit

There were either three or four of these Glam Slam duos - I can’t be quite sure, since I’m picking up some of the colors more than a year after their release! I first saw Pros and Bronze while shopping with my mom after Christmas, and fell in love with the color. I was at home when I saw the duo on sale at drugstore.com, so I haven’t yet worn Love is a Racket, but I...

BareMinerals’ Satin Caramel

BareMinerals’ Satin Caramel

Similar to a few other BE colors, Satin Caramel is darker brown than Antique Pearl, cooler than Ta-dah. The finish is a near-pearl, what BE is calling “satin” - it’s not quite as reflective as other BE pearls, and the underlying color is more visually present than with other “pearl” finish shades. The coverage is even, and the pigmentation levels are decent - not fantastic, but slightly above average for a BE eyeshadow.

Almost an antiqued gold, with hints of green and a roughened shimmer finish. The pigmentation is excellent. The only issue I have with this eyeshadow is that it doesn’t look markedly different when applied wet versus dry, so if you generally amp up colors by foiling them, this color is already amped up. I’m not sure how it would be softened, except perhaps by applying it very lightly with a fiber-optic brush. I would like to see how...

Beauty from the Earth’s Sweet n Spicy

Beauty from the Earth’s Sweet n Spicy

When I bought Shiro Cosmetics’ Mew, I was hoping for the perfect coral-rose eyeshadow. What I got was just a bit pinker than I expected, I like that shade. Still, I kept my eye out for the perfect softened coral-rose. I have now found that perfect coral-rose. Beauty from the Earth’s Sweet n Spicy is just barely softer than I might wish, but I can amp it up by applying it over a peachy base like Rubenesque or Samba-dy...
