Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss collection

I was peripherally aware of this collection in the months and weeks leading up to its release, but it wasn’t until I started seeing swatches - and photos from other bloggers who I trusted - that I decided to purchase some of these. At $21, they’re among the pricier products in my collection. The tube is thicker than most, because of the studded design. The cap stays in place, and you won’t have problems digging around in your bag and trying to figure out if you’ve grabbed the right product. (I don’t know of too many other makeup items whose packaging is quite like this.) Some of the colors are longstanding cult favorites from KVD’s other lip product lines, but a dozen are new to this collection.

Photos that show how the product actually performs...! See how I create my swatches

Four Studded Kiss lipsticks, swatched: Bachelorette, Bauhau5, L'ecole des Femmes, and Lolita Four Studded Kiss lipsticks, swatched: Lovecraft, Lullabye, LUV, and Thin Lizzy Three Studded Kiss lipsticks, swatched: Underage Red, Wolvesmouth, and Wunderchilde

I fell in love with Lovecraft almost instantly. I haven't ever owned or even tried any Kat Von D lipsticks before, so wasn't aware what a great shade this is! The perfect (for me) mauved pink with just the barest of buff undertones to give the color a tiny bit more depth. My other favorites are Thin Lizzy and Wolvesmouth.

Thanks to swatches that Phyrra posted, I know that I want Lullabye at some point. I also like Hexagram and Hellbent, but since I already own Underage Red and Bachelorette, I don't think I need two more deep reds in my collection. Sexer is just barely too bright for my personal preferences, and even though it is cooler, Backstage Bambi is just a little brighter of a hot pink than I care to wear on my lips. (But it's such a pretty color!!!) I thought that I might like to try Cathedral at some point, and when I swatched it there was enough rose to keep the brown from veering into "tan" territory, so it's definitely something that will look good on me. I think I'll wait until I've made much more of a dent in Lolita and Lovecraft before getting Cathedral, though. Wolvesmouth is a really great metallic-berry-red shade that I absolutely adore, and it's a metallic finish, which means it applies just a bit easier than the mattes. Bauhau5 looks like it might be an interesting deeper shade on me (more swatches from Phyrra): just the right amount of "hot pink" tones with a bit more depth.
