Mattese Elite’s Star Dust Powder collection

I first started looking for these when I noticed another blogger using what looked like the perfect orange eyeshadow. I found the name, went looking for the producct…and found a whole collection of these colors. Apparently this is the house-brand of makeup of Ricky’s NYC.

The Star Dust Powders are packaged a bit like the older MAC pigments or the NYX Chrome shadows, in a wider, thick-walled round jar. There’s quite a good amount of product in each jar, the color payoff is excellent, and right now there’s a special on the Ricky’s NYC web site, where when you buy two or more, you pay just $4.99 per jar.

This collection contained:

  • Black Gold — soft black with gold shimmer
  • Black Queen — soft black shimmer
  • Chrome — metallic cool silver shimmer
  • Eggplant — metallic red-purple shimmer
  • Fabulous — metallic warm pewter shimmer
  • Glitzy — metallic bronzed brown shimmer
  • Gold — metallic yellow-gold shimmer
  • Kaleidescope — metallic magenta-fuchsia shimmer
  • Navy — metallic medium-dark blue shimmer
  • Purple Haze — metallic magenta-violet shimmer
  • Queen — metallic deep turquoise shimmer
  • Sherbet — near-metallic coral-orange shimmer
  • Wine —

I only discovered this when my first order arrived; but all of these Star Dust Powders are marked “not to be used on eyelids." I don’t know why that is, exactly; but, before you go buy a bunch…don’t even try it if you have any chemical sensitivities whatsoever. Wear it on your nails, but not anywhere near your eyes. I haven’t had any problems; but I think we’ve established that a) the only chemical sensitivities I have involve crankiness when there’s too much blood in my caffeine stream; and b) I regard most makeup usage rules as “suggestions" unless there’s a very clear-cut reason like the manufacturer using soap dyes in eyeshadows, which tends to cause severe problems.
