Morphe × Nikita Dragun Artistry Palette

This is the only other cardboard-packaging palette that I picked up from Morphe. This one has more neutrals than it might appear at first glance, but it’s not a “pop of color in a sea of neutral” situation. This palette actually has a yellow, though it’s not a bright bold primary-yellow. (More like a buttercup yellow, and a frost to boot! Oh Morphe, why do you keep doing this to me?) The shade names are printed beneath the pans, but they’re medium-deep green text on a black background, so they’re really not easy to read - even when I’m wearing my reading glasses, there’s just not a lot of color contrast, and if Morphe hadn’t printed a list of the shades in their respective rows I’d still be doing a lot of guessing. I’m also kind of pissed about the shade at the exact center of this palette: not only does it blend down into a smooth, kind of thin-coverage periwinkle-iris blue with neither any shimmer effects nor any of the richer purple visible, it’s a cream shadow.

A SINGLE CREAM SHADOW. IN THE MIDDLE OF A NON-CREAM SHADOW PALETTE.

I think this irritates me more than pressed glitters do. With a pressed glitter, if you leave it alone, it won’t be more of a bacteria-magnet than the shadows around it. There’s even a glitter shadow in this palette that irritates me less than this one does! (I dug this out and repotted it straightaway, since I do like the final color somewhat. I just don’t like having a cream shadow, which is a more inviting breeding-ground for bacteria, in such close proximity to a bunch of non-cream shadows. Also, having a cream shadow in a cardboard palette, which is less airtight than the more familiar black plastic clamshell palette packaging…no. I don’t want the cream shadow to dry out, so I scooped all the product out and put it into a 5-gram cosmetic jar.)

The glitter shadow in this palette is the one at the lower right. It’s not completely a pressed glitter. It’s more like multicolored glitter roundels in a clear-cream-ish base (I’d almost call it “waxy”, because it’s not quite a cream…but it isn’t as firm as a wax, either.) I’m not going to put this close to my eyes because I’m ultra-cautious about large-particle glitters being near my eyes, but I do intend to use this for brow and/or face art. The glitter particles are blue, magenta, green, and silver, and there seem to be at least two different particle sizes.

My favorite shades in this palette…are shades very similar to ones I have in other Morphe palettes. (I know, isn’t that a kick in the kneecap?) Shego, Rasnegan, Nikita, Pussycat, and Nicole all have exact or close analogues in one of the other palettes I picked up around the same time. Estrogen, a tanned pink with blue-silver shimmer, isn’t something I’ve seen in the other palettes I have. Unfortunately, it’s also a frost-finish, which means that I have to do a little bit of extra work to get this shadow to work well for me.
