This kit of three retractable eyeliners was originally $14.00. I got them when they dropped in price to $9.00. The colors didn’t thrill me, but the items from the Sephora+Pantone Universe collection have been fairly decent, a little bit different than the regular Sephora line. They’ve applied a bit more easily and been a bit more durable. The packaging is always a little bit over the top - hardsided, thicker-walled plastic boxes, usually, or a thicker-plastic-and-cardboard combination - and it’s definitely more made for showcasing than for being easy to open, easy to recycle, or sustainable.
At least the plastic box for these three liners was a bit smaller than for the 2012 Color of the Year eyeliner set.
The design of the pencils is interesting, also, with a white section toward the top of the pencils that's slightly indented. The surface is very very slightly roughened, to provide a better grip. (It does and does not work. But hey, they tried something different.) I was hoping that these pencils might have some shimmer to them, or iridescence...something-anything to set them apart from Sephora's other eyeliners. That isn't the case. The eyeliners do apply easily, though as the temperature drops they tend to skip just a bit because they're wax-based. Keeping the liner in your pocket for ten minutes should warm the liner so that it applies more smoothly. I was still able to smudge the liners a little bit after about a minute had passed, but wasn't able to completely remove the liner at that point. Once it did set, I had some minor flaking throughout the day, but it stayed put fairly well for twelve hours. I still had well over half of the liner in place when I went to remove it that night.
