Shiro Cosmetics’ Legends review: part deux review

Posted on Wednesday, at bought • 470 views

Today I’m wearing my Shiro Legends colors: Master Sword, Deku in the outer crease, Likelike on the inner vee, Oshus on the upper lash line. I tried taking pictures, but they’re blurrier than normal. I need to just buy a camera tripod, is what…and I also need to get over this whatever-it-is that’s trying so valiantly to take over my system. It came up yesterday afternoon, and I just want it to go away.

I wrote up the entire collection the other day, colors/descriptions/swatches/the whole megillah. My fullsize Shiro order won’t be here until tomorrow (...rats…) but I have swatched all the colors, decided what I am and am not getting in fullsize, and made a first-run list of color comparisons. So since I can’t really write up any of the colors just yet, here’s a spot-review of the other colors in the collection.

Shiro Cosmetics’ Legends review: part deux

About half of the colors in this collection reminded me strongly of the now-departed Rocks! Sonic Eyes collection. Part of that is the brilliance of some of these colors, part is the sparkle-factor. (Part also could just be that I’m in mourning for that collection, even though I managed to buy every color that I wanted before it was yanked.) For almost any color in this collection, wear a base and think about using a sealant…but even so, you’re going to have to stop worrying and love the sparkly fallout.

Boomerang: warm brown with pink sparkle
A warmer, sparklier version of Goron: less yellow, a little more brown, but definitely a warmer color rather than a straight neutral shade. This color definitely has fallout, so you'll want to use a base and / or sealant.

Dimitri: orange-red with pink shimmer
Initially I thought I would get this color in fullsize. Looking at it, I thought it might be a slightly more pigmented version of Bare Escentuals' Fantasy, but it's actually a bit brighter. I'm still on the fence about this one; but luckily, Shiro doesn't do LE collections - so if in a few months or a year I decide, no, I've used up my entire sample and want a fullsize pot...I can go back and get it.

Din's Fire: ice-lilac shimmer
Kin but not kind to Aromaleigh v1's Hydrangea, and Bare Escentuals' Hugs, Din's Fire is more pigmented and displays more color than either of those two shades. I don't know if this would look really excellent on deeper skintones, or if it would be too bright. It's a lovely, well-pigmented lilac-purple, though.

Epona: metallic brown shimmer
Very pretty neutral-brown shimmer, not too much fallout, just a nice color payoff that works on just about any skintone. I won't be getting this because I have lots and lots of browns already - but that's about the only reason I won't be getting it. If I were drawn to brown eyeshadows the way I seem to gravitate toward reds and blues, I'd probably happily add it to my collection - no matter how many browns I already had :D

Farore's Wind: pale sea-green shimmer
When I purchased Ride the Wave from The SheSpace, I was disappointed at the pigmentation levels. Farore's Wind is the color and pigmentation-weight that I expected from Ride the Wave. Like RTW, it's similar to TKB Trading's Pearl Green, but it has a bit more green than "frost". If this color was a touch more aqua, and possibly just a smidge deeper, I'd be all over it. As it is, though, bright seafoam colors look pretty but don't quite work too well with my coloring.

Goron: khaki-yellow shimmer
Good pigmentation level, adheres well, no sparkly fallout...this particular color just doesn't look good on me. This is almost an antiqued gold-green patina shade. Warm-toned folks and folks who absolutely love this color will want to get a sample and check it out. If you like this color but want something with just a touch less depth, look at Triforce from this same collection.

Kokiri Forest: muted yellow-green shimmer
This color is right on the boundary between light true green and new-leaf green. It's similar to The SheSpace's Blisstified, but (you guessed it) more pigmented

Likelike: pale yellow shimmer
Similar to Pearls and Stilettos, in that it's a pale yellow that works well as a brow- or inner-vee-highlighter; but far more pigmented, so it also works as a regular eye color.

Majora's Mask: royal blue sparkle
It's Bluemonday, but with sparkles!! (Which I guess would make it a dead ringer for Bodyelectric, which I saw but did not buy.)

Master Sword: champagne-gold tan sparkle
It's almost like Urban Decay's Midnight Cowboy Rides Again, except that it's less warm than MCRA. But...here be sparkly fallout. It's a lovely shade, even with the fallout - a champagne-golden brown - but, again, I have lots and lots of browns. So while I'm enjoying wearing it today, I won't be buying it fullsize. (Until such time as I cave and change my mind, that is.)

Midna: grey-blue sparkle
In my swatch-photos, Midna is right in between Master Sword and Moosh. When it's by itself, it's a gorgeous medium-deep cadet blue sparkle - but when between the bright gold-brown Master Sword and the bright blue Moosh, it looks a bit darker. Don't be fooled. I can't immediately think of a similar color in my collection.

Nayru's Love: muted medium blue shimmer
I originally thought I'd get this color in fullsize. Once I swatched them all, though, I liked Moosh and Ocarina a bit better - and I didn't want to buy all of the blues from this collection. I love blue, absolutely love it; but I don't want to overload. (And I'm almost there. How embarrassing.)

Puzzle Cube: white with silver shimmer
Reminds me quite strongly of Whitewedding, but with just slightly less fallout than that color. Brushed on lightly, it makes an excellent brow highlighter shade. Patted on or applied over a base, you've got an excellentlly pigmented white. I won't be getting it because I have Whitewedding (and Whiteriot, because something in me just had to have both) but if you wanted either of those colors and missed out...here's your chance!! Since this is a shimmering white, it is also similar to Bare Escentuals' Snowflake - but Puzzle Cube is more pigmented.

Ricky: golden-orange pearl
Nice pumpkin-orange near-matte. It's the lighter, brighter version of Ocktorok. I'm going to pass on this color, even though it looks really good with my blue eyes, because I have a few other pumpkin-orange shades that I don't use nearly enough.

Rupee: bright yellow-green shimmer
Yellow-greens and I are just not good friends - so I had pretty much decided against this one in fullsize even before I swatched it. This is similar to Oasis but (sing it with me, you know the words by now) more pigmented.

Small Key: metallic warm brown shimmer
Similar to Bare Escentuals' Peaceful, which I have and like...but I've effectively already got this color. Nice to know that when I'm ready for a refill, I have a more pigmented, more shimmering version I can go pick up!

Triforce: yellow-khaki shimmer (lighter version of Goron)
Yet another color that just doesn't appeal to me. It applies well, it's nicely pigmented, it's just not a good colormatch for me personally. If you kind of like the way Goron looks but it looks just a shade too deep, try Triforce (for a lighter color) or even Boomerang (for a cooler color).

Zelda: pale tangerine shimmer
I don't have a sample of Suspectdevice, the matte pale tangerine color from the Rocks! Sonic Eyes collection; but I do have Peek-a-boo, its supersparkly counterpart. Zelda's base color isn't quite as vivid as these, but it's close.
