Shiro Cosmetics’ Super Effective collection

Initially when I saw these talked about on other blogs, I wasn’t interested. I had quite enough colors, thanksmuch; I really don’t need any more. When I first looked them over and saw the relative age of the company (not even a year’s steady registration for the domain, unless it shifted registrars…which is possible) and that it had no longstanding collections, I was even less sure. Then I saw the colors on Sirvinya’s blog and decided…what the heck, let’s check these out. The original collection included forty colors, all named after Pokemon characters.

  • Bicycle Voucher (formerly Vulpix) — red-copper-brown shimmer
  • Boy or Girl? (formerly Magneton) — soft silver-grey with blue shimmer
  • Bubblebeam (formerly Squirtle) — electric blue shimmer
  • Can't Escape (formerly Golem) — rich, dark brown with silver shimmer
  • Champion (formerly Unsatisfactory Mark, from the For Science collection) — bold cardinal-red shimmer
  • Daycare (formerly Brock the Rock) — chocolate brown shimmer
  • Ditto (formerly /kiss, from My Nerdy Valentine collection) — soft medium pink shimmer
  • Elite Four (formerly Lance the Dragon Trainer) — highly pigmented indigo-violet with gold sparkle
  • Evolve (formerly Gyarados) — vivid blue shimmer
  • Eye Contact (formerly Porygon) — highly-pigmented magenta shimmer
  • Flamethrower (formerly Charmander) — golden-pumpkin shimmer
  • I Like Shorts formerly (/hug, from My Nerdy Valentine collection) — metallic brown-based muted gold shimmer
  • Legendary (formerly /love, from My Nerdy Valentine collection) — soft pale yellow shimmer
  • Master Ball (formerly Team Rocket) — warm purple shimmer
  • Missingno (formerly Hyper Beam) — solid opaque black with silver sparkle
  • Not Very Effective (formerly Gengar) — blackened dark violet with red sparkle
  • Repel (formerly Zubat) — sheer muted deep blue sheen
  • Roadblock (formerly Sudowoodo) — rich brown with green and copper shimmer
  • Smell Ya Later (formerly Butterfree) — periwinkle shimmer
  • Sweet Honey (formerly S.S. Anne) — champagne-peach shimmer
  • Team Rocket (formerly Rattata) — rich blue-violet shimmer
  • Thunderbolt (formerly Pikachu) — vivid sun-yellow with red sparkle
  • Victory Road (formerly Steelix) — medium-dark grey with green shimmer
  • Vine Whip (formerly Bulbasaur) — bright kelly green with gold shimmer
  • Whiteout (formerly Meowth) — copper cream shimmer

The color payoff is surprisingly good, they adhere well (a bit of creasing, but no worse than, say, some of Aromaleigh v1's metallic colors), and the prices are excellent. According to the owner, this will be a regularly-available collection, so it's not vanishing in a month or two (yay!!). The finish of most of these colors is very similar to Aromaleigh v1's Eye Lusters, with a similar color payoff.

In early 2012, the lineup was shuffled: some colors were discontinued, many more had their names changed. Caitlin posted a reference of what happened to the different colors in her collections, but it's still a bit confusing to find old favorites!
