Eyeshadow for September 8 2018

Posting these a bit after the fact; but it’s been a busy week. Good-busy, but still…busy!

I applied this shadow before meeting up with some friends. When I went to grab the palette I’d chosen, I registered that it was the “smoke and shadows” palette, but I didn’t really stop and think what that meant. When I applied the outer-lid color, I began to realize: smoke, smokey. These shadows are all a bit greyed, and fairly smoked. I ended up with more purple than I intended! Some fairly conscientious blending and a little blotting, and I was ready to go. We all met up at a dessert-bar, so my makeup wasn’t too obvious in the lower lighting; but once we headed to my car so I could drop them at the train station, the heavier purple was a little more visible.

I used this opportunity to test out Jordana’s new eye primer, Made to Last. For the shadows themselves, I used Sleek’s Arabian Nights palette, as part of my Shop Your Stash challenge. I applied Aladdin’s Lamp to the inner lid/inner vee and put Valley of Diamonds (smoky violet with scattered gold shimmer) on the outer crease, and blended those two shades inward toward the middle. Then I added a little bit of Golden Souk in the lower center lid. (And then I buffed away some of the purple because it was a bit vampier than I intended.) I had recently gotten the NYX Cosmetics’ Halo Holographic Eye Tint in Fairy Dust, which I initially tried using as a flashy liner. That really was not working, so I just applied it to the innermost vee of my eyelids, for a light highlight. I finished off the look with Stila’s Smudge Crayon in Smoke on my eyebrows, Maybelline’s Metallic Chrome Rose Gold highlighter beneath my brow, and Maybelline’s Total Temptation mascara on my lashes.

Photos that show how the product actually performs...! See how I create my swatches
