Sephora’s Ten Shades of Samba Waterproof Eyeliner kit

I’ve looked over the Sephora Contour Eyeliner collection and contemplated buying some, but never did manage to decide to try any out. And then, this kit came along…! This was my sole purchase from the VIB Rouge sale, both because I was still recently recovering from being unemployed; and because I just didn’t want anything else. This, though…this was a good deal even without the Rouge discount. Ten eyeliner pencils for the cost of five? Sure, sign me up!

Two of the colors are unique to this kit, but the rest are a part of the regular line. I would have chosen some different colors for my “first dive” into the line, had I been buying them individually; but aside from one, there are no shades in this kit that I won’t use at some point.

These pencils are a little firmer than the Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliners, so be careful not to tug the skin around your eyes when you apply. (Or keep the pencil in a pocket for 10 minutes before applying, to soften the product just a little. That goes double in the colder months.) On the plus side, the metallic pencils apply without the skipping or patchiness that I've seen in some of the Urban Decay metallics. I am doubly glad that I got this collection, because otherwise I probably would have never gotten Black Lace - a deep solid black creme - or Tiramisu - a blackened brown creme with excellent coverage and definition.

This collection contained:

  • Banana Split — bright banana-yellow creme
  • Black Lace — dark black creme
  • Blonde Ambition — pale gold-beige shimmer
  • Caipirinha Dreamin’ — metallic bright light green shimmer (exclusive to this kit)
  • Cookie Crunch — shimmer
  • Eccentric Diva — medium-deep violet creme
  • Romantic Comedy — hot pink shimmer
  • Summer Cruise — bright blue creme
  • Tiramisu — blackened brown creme
  • Tropical Dancefloor — metallic bright orange shimmer (exclusive to this kit)

Even though I chiefly picked up this kit for Romantic Comedy and Banana Split, I've also fallen in love with Tiramisu, Cookie Crunch, Blonde Ambition, and Black Lace. Summer Cruise is gorgeous, I'm just not sure how often I'll reach for that particular shade, just because of personal preference. I think that Tropical Dancefloor might get more use!
