Zoya’s True collection

Releasing early next week (available for pre-ordering beginning January 9, 2012) is Zoya’s winterspring collection “True”. I actually like that Zoya’s collections this past year have been a mix: some deeper colors, some brights, some glitters, some creams, some neutrals…it does Nail Files: Zoya’s Bevin (official photography)mean that some of the collections haven’t interested me much, but that also means that if OPI is on a glitter-kick and I don’t like glitter, Nail Files: Zoya’s Cho (official photography)there’s still going to be a collection or two that speaks to me. I think it’s a smart business strategy on Zoya’s part, both in terms of addressing a demographic that may not be part of the current nail polish trend and in terms of fleshing out their own line.

True is six colors: two neutrals and four cool shades, in a mix of finishes. Cho, with its peach-beige color and silver shimmer, looks almost like a slightly cooler version of Uli. Farah is a deeper, cooler beige cream that has some cooler undertones, so I think it will work nicely for me…but I don’t know how it will compare to Pandora, which I already have two bottles of.

Photos that show how the product actually performs...! See how I create my swatches

Bevin looks very pretty, very unique. Not completely a pastel green, just a bit muted, so it's different from other Zoya greens. I'm not always a big fan of green polishes, but this is a cooler shade and looks different from anything else in Zoya's lineup to date. Skylar is the other color that caught my attention immediately! Photos show that it's a little brighter than it appears in the promo image - a dusty cornflower blue - and that it has a faint gold shimmer.

Lotus and Tru initially didn't register with me, largely because I'm a lesser fan of deep purple polishes (and I've had two not-so-great experiences recently with purple Zoyas: Jem, which didn't have the multicolored glitter that it displayed in the bottle; and Neeka, which I like more than Jem, but still...not a huge fan of deeper purple polishes.) A picture of Lotus, from VampyVarnish, has just about convinced me to add that shade to my wishlist. Lotus is a smokey indigo-purple with red and gold shimmer - and I like smokey purples better than jeweltone purples, for nail colors. (Isn't that odd? For clothing and eyecolors, I gravitate toward jeweltone purples. But for the nails...I want smoked or muted.)

This collection contained:

  • Bevin — medium-light blue-sage creme
  • Cho — beige with gold shimmer
  • Farah — cool sandy-beige cream
  • Lotus — metallic smokey indigo with red-gold shimmer
  • Skylar — metallic dusty blue with gold shimmer
  • Tru — metallic warm purple with red and pink shimmer
