This was my first TSS collection experience…and it was a doozy. Apparently, in previous collections, Heather had such a small customer base that she wasn’t saving the formulas for the colors. She’d make a collection, sell it, and that was well and truly it. For this one, knowing how much the customer base had increased in recent months, she saved all the formulas - and indeed made the entire collection available again for a brief period of time in late November 2008 (and again in early 2010 when the store was closing). I bought 32 of these 38 colors, bypassing most of the greens and a few of the darker taupes…yet there are still a few colors I wish I’d gotten (Desperate Measures!!!) The descriptions below, even photos of the colors in their pots, don’t really do these colors justice. The names were just so terrific!! I had a long phone call with Heather when I placed my (gargantuan) order, and she had never studied comparative mythology nor even read the older, “darker” versions of the Cinderella fairy tale. She was unaware just how interesting and spot-on some of her color names were!

This was my favorite of all the collections from The SheSpace (closely followed by the Leo and Cancer astrology collections.) This was, in my opinion, also the collection with the highest average pigmentation levels and the best color quality.

Pure Luxe’s Fairy Wings

Pure Luxe’s Fairy Wings
  • Manufacturer: Pure Luxe Cosmetics
  • Availability: from the webstore
  • Color Range: cool medium pink with soft gold shimmer
  • Staying Power: 3 out of 4 stars
  • Cost/Amount: full 10-gram jar with sifter for $9.50
  • Would you purchase again: yes
  • Similar shades: TSS' Girl Genius

Pure Luxe’s site describes this color as a “Pinky plum base with beige interference. Satin finish.” The gold glow is lightly visible when applied dry; when applied wet, the color has a brightened sheen. It’s a soft, cooler color that nearly matches the skintone on my eyes, and highlights my blue eyes without being too “pink”. When applied dry, the color will crease on my lids after about 4 hours. If I apply it over a shadow base, I get another hour’s wear out of it. If I apply it wet, I can get up to six hours as an all-over color before I need to touch it up. Like most of Pure Luxe’s eye colors, this has good staying power. The amount of product for the price paid is good, better than many of the big-name MMU players. I haven’t done an exhaustive comparison of colors yet, so I’m not sure about dupes. I think that TSS’ Girl Genius is the closest initial match. Girl Genius is a slightly warmer color, a bit more salmon; and its glow is more white-gold than beige-gold.

Beauty Tip

Soften a too-rich lipstick by blotting and then dusting your lips with finishing powder. (This also helps set the color.)
