Most blackened colors leave behind a sooty residue. And then there's this one. Yep, no gungy hard-to-remove kruft, just a darkened metallic shade. This definitely looked different in the sample envelope - I was worried that it was more black than gold!

Almost midnight blue applied wet, a softer shade with silver and green shimmer when applied dry. I don't do the “smokey eye” thing, but this could probably be used for that look - it's a deep enough blue without being blackened. I like that this color actually has two distinct “faces” depending on application. I get my softer navy and a near-midnight blue shimmer. Softer warm orange. I have some similar shades from other companies, but none with this finish nor this level of color payoff. It's actually somewhere between “pale pumpkin orange” and “bronzed gold”. I don't know how this would look on super-pale skintones, but I'm betting that on deeper skin with warm-to-neutral coloring it would look lovely.

I love true maroon eyeshadows - but for whatever reason or series of reasons, they either come out looking nearly black, or having only a ghost of actual maroon in them once they're applied. This one is a faded maroon, almost a brick red. But it's actually maroon - not dark red, not pale reddish merlot, but actual maroon. I wish the color payoff was a tiny bit better…but, hey, it isn't sheer, and it's easily amped up by...
