Urban Decay’s Vice lipstick in Asphyxia

Urban Decay’s Vice lipstick in Asphyxia

One of the first eyeliners I fell in love with was this shade of sterno-purple. I was thrilled when I found this same shade in other lines, including Urban Decay. I had to grab at least two tubes of this when it was released as part of Urban Decay’s 20th birthday celebration! It’s a sheer color, so it’s best at either being a tint, or an effects layer on top of other lip colors. I like using...

Shiro Cosmetics’ Play Baseball with a Weed Whacker

Shiro Cosmetics’ Play Baseball with a Weed Whacker

It looks like it might be a shimmer finish…but, no. There are some blue and purple color-flecks, and a hint of refraction at certain angles, but overall, this is a deeper evergreen shadow with a satin finish. Good as a darker accent shade, can work as a non-black liner shade. I did get a little bit of stain on my skin when swatching this one, but another pass with makeup remover and it was gone.

Shiro Cosmetics’ Umbra

Shiro Cosmetics’ Umbra

The second of two colors of the month, created and named for the total solar eclipse happening in August 2017. Of the two shadows, Umbra has more overt, discernable sparkle…which is a little ironic, since the umbra is the shadow of the eclipse Umbra looks a little similar to other shades in my collection, but those don’t have the blackening, so the blue is very similar but doesn’t pop quite as much.

Zoya’s Azalea

Zoya’s Azalea

I love this shade, I love the finish! The only downside was that it’s a bit less opaque than I’d love. It took three coats to get a solid-color manicure. I don’t know if this is a sparkle finish or a microglass fleck; either way, if you only use one coat, there will be some of that finish but not as much as you’ll see in my photos.

My Pretty Zombie’s Dolly Deadly collection

My Pretty Zombie’s Dolly Deadly collection

I’m always interested in new collections from My Pretty Zombie! In contrast to the most recent collections, these are shimmer-finish shadows in brighter, more saturated colors. I didn’t have to work hard to build these up, nor even apply them in the first place! They’re a little bit uneven, but I did get a solid layer of color on the first pass with all of the eyeshadows. I haven’t done more with the face powders yet,...

Fyrinnae’s Winter Sunrise

Not *quite* a sheer color, though there’s more heft to the pink shimmer finish than to the pink-coral base shade. It’s a bit like Cupcake Frosting, Aye Aye Captain, and the other colors released in that wave: yes, the color is much more intense over a dark base; but it’s not whisper-pale when used on its own.

Shiro Cosmetics’ Corona

Shiro Cosmetics’ Corona

The first of two colors created and named for the solar eclipse happening in August 2017. The corona is the halo of light visible around the edges of the eclipse…and the color Corona is a blackened red with semi-visible flecks of gold. (The gold disappears upon application, though.) The application is smooth enough, and there’s enough of the colorant that the blackening isn’t too apparent, even when I blend the color out.

My Pretty Zombie’s Garnish

My Pretty Zombie’s Garnish

An attractive shade…that doesn’t apply too well, unfortunately. I had the best results applying it dry, patting it over primer…but the usual soft sweep-across that I do to get rid of any excess showed me some thinner spots. The wet application was uneven because this shadow does not like mixing with water. This is, unfortunately, standard behavior for most MPZ matte shadows. Using a different mixing medium, or applying over a partially damp base, may yield better...

This color applies well, though a sealant wouldn’t be a bad idea if you want to maxinize and keep the shimmer. It’s a heathered medium-light green, so works fairly well as an “honorary neutral” shade. I have some similar greens…but not exact matches. I’m glad that I got this before LaurEss closed its doors!
