Zoya’s Melodie

Zoya’s Melodie

Part of the discontinued Sirens collection. Melodie was discontinued in 2012, but I haven’t actually worn it until recently, when I was methodically going through all of my Zoya polishes to see which might be similar to polishes they’ve been releasing in the past two years. If Melodie looks a little familiar, you might be thinking off McKenna, released with the recent-ish Sophisticates collection. McKenna lacks Melodie’s silver microglitter, though.

Sometimes you need a subtler manicure - kind of a visual palate cleanser. (Or a good backdrop for some simple nail art.) Zoya’s Naturel collections were a nice collection of neutrals, and they did a better job of spanning a range of “natural” shades than this collection. Still, these are some nice colors! One of them was more sheer than the rest, but the other three were all two-coaters with very good spreadability.

The yellow shimmer finish is much more apparent than the base color. I like the dry application a lot, but the colorshifts along the “sides” of where the brush-pressure is the greatest can’t easily be replicated across an entire lid. This can work as a liner shade with the yellow-gold shimmer, if you want a deep-but-not-super-intense dark color.

I like this shade, but I do like the non-sheer version a bit better. The sheer version has color, and it’s a softer, less intense version of the non-sheer shade. I can see using this version as a summer lip, when I don’t want a lot of color but do want a slight tint.

The dry application is pretty pale. It’s almost sheer! The upside is that this can double as a highlighter. When applied wet, the shadow is opaque, and has fairly solid color payoff, as well as a near-metallic finish.

Applied dry, the shimmer is virtually invisible. (It really doesn’t like sticking around without some encouragement beyond primer.)

Shiro Cosmetics’ Great British Makeup Box: Showstopper

Shiro Cosmetics’ Great British Makeup Box: Showstopper

The warm-neutral holiday set from Shiro. The other full box that I bought, Technical, has cooler-leaning neutrals. I don’t wear all of these items together, because they match nicely with each other but all-warm colors don’t do miracles for my coloring. They’re all very attractive colors, full pigmentation and good adhesion.
