CND’s Vinylux Black Pool (105)

CND’s Vinylux Black Pool (105)

Straightforward black, with good coverage. The finish is on the more refractive end of the Vinylux cremes, but it isn’t a high-shine creme. (And the required topcoat dulls the finish just a bit.) The formula was about average, no thin spots but no clumping either. If someone were asking me why to get this black over, say, China Glaze’s Patent Leather or Zoya’s Raven, I’d reply that this polish will last a lot longer than either...

Jordana’s Cat Eye Liner collection

Jordana’s Cat Eye Liner collection

I was interested to try these when they came out: liquid liners available at drugstores, with a really nice price point. None of this $15 stuff (not all drugstore makeup is in this range, but some of it is…and not all of it is worth it.) I haven’t tried tons of Jordana, but what I have tried, I’ve liked. These are excellent! The brush is great for finer detail, and the bristles are nicely trimmed and shaped. It...

This is a pretty intense purple! There's a little color depth, but the reflections really make this shade stand out! It's almost too bright for me to use as an all-over shade without a slightly greyed or smoked shade, to counterbalance. (But it makes a truly wicked liner!)

A little lighter than I generally prefer my green eyeshadows, but it does have more depth when applied, than it appears in the pot. The color leans just barely warm, but looks cooler when foiled (with just about any mixing medium.) It doesn't have the depth or staying power of BE's Oz, but it's a solid performer. I can't quite remember, but I think this was one of my first BE eyeshadows.

BareMinerals’ Go Bare Baby kit

I’m never totally sure what to make of these “face color/glow powder” kits. On the one hand, they’re a good way to get multiples to try and a lower-than-retail price. On the other hand…I appreciated the blush kits far, far more.

The overall pairing is a bit warm for me, with my slightly cooler undertones. I would personally swap True Gold for a medium lilac, and substitute a slightly more neutral lip polish (possibly Eva, or maybe Tara). The colors coordinate decently, and there isn’t a brown eyeshadow!

Sephora’s Colorful Shadow Liner in Gold

A slightly aged gold, but not too deep. It leans just barely orange, but it isn't an orange-yellow, just and “old gold” yellow. It's a near-metallic finish, and it applies very nicely, no skipping or “frosty” behavior (ie, behaving like a frost-finish cream shadow or pencil: skipping, streaking, generally carrying on cranky.)

This is a very dark color, but I don't know that I see it as “blackened.” I think this color might be similar to UD's Loaded, but a) without the blackening and b) not a microglitter-shimmer finish. This one was easier to apply than Loaded, though - like all of the Big and Bright pencils - it is easier for me to work with if I keep the pencil in my pocket for 5-10 minutes, so that the product softens...

Femme Fatale Cosmetics’ Daughter of Eve blush

Femme Fatale Cosmetics’ Daughter of Eve blush

The photos make this look like an orange-ish blush, but there are more pink tones in there than are readily visible. The overall color is softer, and has a very faint shimmer. I'd imagine that this would look good on a wide variety of skintones, both warm and cool; but will probably look best on people who are closer to neutral. I also don't know that the shade would show up very well on extremely deep skintones - it would...

NYX Cosmetics’ Jumbo Lip Pencil in Hazelnut

NYX Cosmetics’ Jumbo Lip Pencil in Hazelnut

This is a very soft color. I almost don't see any color at all, just a very slight deepening and muting of my natural lip color. (Other than the pearl finish, which is the most visible thing about this.) The brown color is attractive. If this were an eye pencil, or a cream base, it would also be pretty subtle, but perhaps not invisible. I won't be getting this color again, but I have worn it occasionally, once I learned...
