Sephora’s Contour Eye Pencil in Sangria

Sephora’s Contour Eye Pencil in Sangria

Posted on Friday, at

Looking for a burgundy eyeliner? Not red, not maroon, but burgundy? Sephora’s got you covered with Sangria. This shade wasn’t part of the original Contour Eye Pencil lineup. It is waterproof, and applies fairly smoothly. It isn’t as easy to keep the pencil sharp, though, so if you want a sharp wing you may be happier using a tiny brush like elf’s Smudge Brush to apply this.

Color Club’s Made in the USA

Color Club’s Made in the USA

I was interested in a deep blue that wasn’t blackened! The polish is definitely deep blue…but it’s a bit uneven. Even with two coats, you can see scattered thin spots.

Zoya’s Ruthie

Zoya’s Ruthie

I have kept my eye out for colors like this, like Veronica - a lovely winter-rose. The formula is standard Zoya creme, but this bottle was a little on the thicker side. The polish didn’t entirely level out as smoothly as I would have liked, though it did come close.

Too Faced’s Life’s A Festival: La Crème Mystical Lipstick collection

Too Faced’s Life’s A Festival: La Crème Mystical Lipstick collection

Posted on Tuesday, at

Too Faced released this mini collection of duotone lipsticks to go along with the other items in its Life’s a Festival collection. (The Unicorn Tears shade shows up in several forms in Life’s a Festival.) These lipsticks are supposed to be a duotone: a base shade, and then an interference shimmer effect. Fairy Tears, which appears yellow, goes on with such a strong pink interference that it might as well be a semisheer pink. Mermaid Tears should have...

Milani Cosmetics’ Hypnotic Lights Powder Highlighter collection

Milani Cosmetics’ Hypnotic Lights Powder Highlighter collection

Posted on Tuesday, at

I am such a sucker for duotone highlighters. When I first saw Beaming Light and Flashing Light in the store, I was highly interested in this whole collection. These are larger pressed-powder highlighters, about the same size as Milani’s Rose Powder Blushes or Maybelline’s Master Studio Chrome Highlighters. The powder is pretty buttery, it applies very well and there’s not a huge amount of loose dust kicked up when I run the brush across the product surface....

L’Oréal’s Infallible 24HR Eye Shadow in Bottomless Java (800)

L’Oréal’s Infallible 24HR Eye Shadow in Bottomless Java (800)

Not the most glamorous iten in the 24HR Eye Shadow collection…but it’s a rich neutral brown with very good color payoff. This is an excellent “pitch it in your bag” shadow that could complement just about any look that I might put together.

TKB Trading’s Orange Oxide

TKB Trading’s Orange Oxide

A muted muddy autumnal orange that can look like an orangey tan in some lights. I like the dry application better than the foiled - this is a bit clayey, so any foiling will end up reflecting that. Foiling also seems to wash out the color a little bit.

CND’s Vinylux Rebellious Ruby (330)

CND’s Vinylux Rebellious Ruby (330)

I was really looking forward to this intense dripping-with-jewels red! It was released in the Crystal Alchemy collection, both for the holidays but also for CND's anniversary. I was less than thrilled to find that I needed four coats to get full opacity.

Maybelline’s Define-a-Lash Lenthening Waterproof Mascara

Maybelline’s Define-a-Lash Lenthening Waterproof Mascara

Your basic average lengthening mascara. It does lengthen a bit, the brush separates the lashes well, and the formula doesn’t clump or flake. The brush has a very slight curve to it, but not enough of a curve to make the brush potentially dangerous. The bristles are thicker, and plastic, which helps with the lash-separation. I tend to prefer the CoverGirl mascaras, but this one is a fairly solid performer.
