Zoya’s Marnie

Zoya’s Marnie

Not too easy for me to pin this one down…it's got some reddish tones, undertones of brown, it's deep enough to start veering into ‘oxblood' territory almost… It's a more elegant-looking color IMHO because of the color depth. The formula is decent, though a little bit thick. It didn't really cure on two of my nails, and you can see the pulling that happened when I applied the second coat.

This color is a bit more on the sheer side. It isn’t totally sheer, like Dazzling Dance; but it took me more coats to get full opacity (and for the pink duochrome to really show well.) This shade has some similarities with Swanky Silk and Pink Cosmo, but they’re not exact dupes. If you’re looking for subtle duochrome, any of the three shades will work for you. But if you’re looking for the longest-wearing formula that...

Fyrinnae’s Exquisites: Elegant Revelry

Fyrinnae’s Exquisites: Elegant Revelry

Second of three of Fyrinnae's new(ish-by-now) Exquisites colors that I got in full-size. These are attractive, but I personally am less fond of the spreadability of these when not foiled. I can get a similar color from some other eyeshadows I've gotten, but it will also apply nicely without any kind of mixing medium at all…and I get a softer look. (These shadows are still pretty, and the specific color intensity of this one when foiled with something...

Sephora’s Waterproof 12-hour Contour Eye Pencil collection

Sephora’s Waterproof 12-hour Contour Eye Pencil collection

I’ve been thrilled with these pencils since I first tried them out in mid-2014. They’ve got a great color selection, all-day staying power, and each pencil costs half of what Urban Decaycharges for one of their 24-7 eyeliner pencils. Sephora brand makeup has always been a hit-or-miss affair, but these for me are most definitely a hit. Sephora does seem to release one or two “collections” a year that contain some of these pencils. That’s perhaps the...

BareMinerals’ Shangri La

BareMinerals’ Shangri La

Posted on Monday, at

From comments I've been able to find online, this was the least-liked of the 2009 Customer Blends collection. So of course it's the one that keeps getting brought back. Shangri La is a blend of other existing BE eyeshadows, but since I didn't buy this kit when it came out I don't have the card so I can't put the “recipe” here. I'll keep looking, though… It's a fairly straightforward taupe with a shimmer finish and decent color payoff. I kind...

Hot pink, just barely on the cool side, but it's definitely fuchsia. The color stains a bit, so even if you don't normally use eyeshadow primer, you'll need it under this or you'll be making several passes with the makeup remover to get all of the hot pink off your lids. The color is safe for eyes and face, but not the lips (even though it would make a really great lip color…)

BareMinerals’ Burlesque

BareMinerals’ Burlesque

A non-duotone white from BareMinerals that actually has decent coverage? I may faint from shock. Seriously - Neptune, Venus, Ice Queen, Sun Goddess, Ecstasy…all are duotone (white with some color of iridescent interference shade) and while they have semi-decent color payoff and pigmentation, the plain whites generally are a bit lacking. It's good to see a white color that doesn't have to be layered or foiled to provide solid coverage.
