Beauty from the Earth’s Viridian

Beauty from the Earth’s Viridian

Clear green with a softened sparkle. Initial coverage can be a little thin (but even! no bald patches!!), but the shadow is buildable. I also swatch mine over primer and foiled, not over something like Pixie Epoxy or Liquid Luster - both of which grab the shadow more, and will...

BareMinerals’ Velvet Violet

BareMinerals’ Velvet Violet

I haven't been too thrilled with the performance of most of the velvet colors from this collection, but Velvet Violet has pretty good color payoff! The difference between dry-over-primer and foiled application is negligible at best - there's very little change in color intensity, and no change in the finish.

Aromaleigh v2’s Indigoapex

Aromaleigh v2’s Indigoapex

Remember when I reviewed this collection that I said that I was debating on Indigoapex because I had lots of blue eyeshadows, but that I'd probably cave and get it? Yep, I caved. I picked it up during one of Aromaleigh's sales. The color is a faded indigo. There are...

L’Oréal’s Brit Invasion

L’Oréal’s Brit Invasion

This looked really interesting in the bottle! A dusky purple with gold shimmer, very attractive. Sadly…the reality is less thrilling. This isn't an ugly polish, it merely doesn't live up to its visual advertising. First off, the polish is more of a cool taupe than a dusky purple. It...

OPI’s Charge It

OPI’s Charge It

I've had this for quite some time, but have only just gotten around to actually using it. This is part of their regular line, so it's not going to drop out of rotation any time real soon. Charge It is rather similar to Zoya's Ziv - if you have one,...

China Glaze’s Unpredictable

China Glaze’s Unpredictable

The duochrome in this is rather faint - a bit like the reverse of Sally Hansen's Scarab, from their duochrome collection released earlier this year. The duochrome in this isn't quite as faint as a few of the other colors in the New Bohemian collection, but it's on the less...

Revlon’s Colorburst Balmstain collection (formerly Just Bitten Kissable Balmstains)

Revlon’s Colorburst Balmstain collection (formerly Just Bitten Kissable Balmstains)

I love these! They’re easy to apply, easy to get more of the product (no sharpening, you just dial up the crayon), easy to find at any drugstore or Ulta-type shop, and are often on sale. They act and apply like Tarte’s Lipsurgence pencils, but they cost quite...

Zoya’s Zang Toi @ NYFW Custom Color Trio kit

Zoya’s Zang Toi @ NYFW Custom Color Trio kit

Posted on Tuesday, at

Originally sold as a “limited edition” collection during NYFW Spring 2012, these colors were added to the regular Zoya lineup six months later, in the Lovely collection. (They did this with almost all of their NYFW colors - except Parveen and Zeenat from the Bibhu Mohapatra collection.) These three “liquid-crystal” glass...

Color Club’s Halo Hues collection

Color Club’s Halo Hues collection

Posted on Tuesday, at

In recent years, we’ve had teases of holographic collections, collections with scattered (or EXTREMELY scattered) effects, and a “got-our-hopes-up-and-no-not-quite” situation just this year. The folks at Color Club had been paying attention, and in late 2012, gave us…Halo Hues. These polishes have the linear holographic effect that makes polish...
