Meow Cosmetics’ Hot blush

Meow Cosmetics’ Hot blush

In some ways, this is like LiM’s Alive’s rosier cousin: less color and more sheen, this is a really great wash over matte shades…or just by itself. It also reminds me of Meow’s Future glow powder, but just a little more pigmented.

Tarte’s Eye Candy Eyeshadow Wands kit

Tarte’s Eye Candy Eyeshadow Wands kit

Amazonian clay has been the “big thing” from Tarte for about the last year. I admit I haven’t understood it, nor really cared about it much…but this collection, which got a lot of airplay around the beauty blogosphere, caught my eye. Six eyeshadow wands (think “MAC shadesticks”) for less than the cost of two MAC shadesticks at retail price? Yeah, okay, twist my arm…

For $9.99, you get three colors of their shimmer balm, in a nice-looking box with a really pretty laser-cut design on the front. Normally these shimmer balms are $5 a piece, so this is a “buy two get one free” kind of deal. And there are two packs: one with Watermelon, Rhubarb, and Champagne; and one with Fig, Peony, and Champagne. I like the ability to get multiples of the product, and I like that they made two assortments (so that if...

Milani’s 3D Holographic collection

The holographic effects were not as dense as the OMG collection, but not quite as scattered as the Kaleidescope collection. I wish more of these had had deeper base colors, like a darker magenta, a deep purple, a darker blue…but the gold and silver (3D and HD, respectively) were excellent finds.

China Glaze’s Grape Juice

China Glaze’s Grape Juice

Like the other colors in this collection, this one takes a few more layers until you get full opacity…but if you love purples or glass fleck polishes, this is a good one to add to the hoard. The color is brighter without being screamingly candy-colored. Dry time is decent - about average for China Glaze polishes.

I got this shade when others posted photos where the color looked just a little lighter. The color spoon also showed me a color that looked closer to green than it did to brown. The gold shimmer that’s in this isn’t very noticeable, either (hence my description of “shimmer-ish”.) I don’t know if I got a bad batch, or just did a bad application job; but this color does not suit me and was not what I...

BareMinerals’ Pretty Amazing Lip Color in Free Will

BareMinerals’ Pretty Amazing Lip Color in Free Will

    Posted on Tuesday, at

I’ve always been cautious about the “nude lip” thing, because it doesn’t always look so great to me. I’ve been trying to branch out a bit in terms of what colors I use and what looks I try. This doesn’t always work out…but without a little variety and change from “the usual”, what’s the point of doing anything, anyway? This color looked like it would be a better match for me than Savvy, the...

That being said...I do have some favorites. Bare Escentuals was my most recent reintroduction to makeup. Their loose-powder shadows and blushes, which don't have a shelf life and are less prone to bacterial contamination than pressed powder makeup, were a big hit to me. (This meant that if I suddenly went off of makeup again, then got re-interested in five or six years, I wouldn't have to worry about whether my cosmetics were still safe to use.) My favorite...
