BBAC 2015, Day One: Hello, and welcome to December!

BBAC 2015, Day One: Hello, and welcome to December!

Who's me? I am female, 46 years old (yep, I'm older than the internet) and thoughout my life I've had several short-term relationships with makeup. It never lasted, because I didn't have money to buy quality products and so, naturally, I wasn't thrilled with the results. I'd go from trying to wear shadow and eyeliner and mascara and lipstick to mascara-and-liptint, then eventually would even give up the mascara. Then I'd let all the makeup sit untouched for over a year,...

Fyrinnae’s Arcane Magic: Sequined Master

Fyrinnae’s Arcane Magic: Sequined Master

Sequined Master can lean more blue at times, but it's a violet-blue. The color is medium-ish, in terms of purples. It's almost an Easter-candy shade. I have many other purples that I like more - I was really hoping to get more of a prominent blue shift from this color, and while it does show up, it's not easy to photograph and it's pretty close to the base purple color.

Pretty shade with a little extra twist, but…it's a bit on the patchier side sometimes. Applied as either a highlighter, or an all-over color wash, it works very nicely. The fact that the top layer stays rather lightly in place, and most of what stays behind is kind of brown-backed gold residue with some incandescent violet bits scattered sparsely throughout. If you're looking for a solid gold satin, there are other eyeshadows to try. That said…the subtle purple...

BareMinerals’ Mystic Beauty kit

BareMinerals’ Mystic Beauty kit

Straightforward-enough color trio of rose-pink, semisheer iridescent violet purple, and a dark brown for lining or very light crease color. (I say very light because Carnival is pretty pigmented, and can easily overwhelm Mystic…though Blush matches it better, at least in terms of color payoff.) Parfait lipstick was, I think, one of the first “pink” lip shades in the 100% Natural Lipsticks line. And it wasn’t even pink! It was a nice enough rose-mauve, but not truly pink. The...

BareMinerals’ Get Started: Medium to Tan kit

BareMinerals’ Get Started: Medium to Tan kit

These “get started” kits have probably been around, in one form or another, since a few years after BE started. Currently, they exist…but they’re broken up more granularly (color depth as well as warm/neutral/cool) and the focus more on the foundation, mineral veil, and other face powders. When I started collecting BE, they were optimized for a skintone range, but were a combination of eyeshadows, blush, and lip color. It was a fairly good, comprehensive introduction...

Coming Soon! BBAC 2015

Coming Soon! BBAC 2015

December is a good month to reflect on the past year, plan ahead for the year to come, and just…kind of take inventory. Your favorite new products, or new tricks you learned. That neat community you stumbled onto. The grand plans you had this time last year (did any of them make it to the ‘implementation' stage? Only about half of mine did. But, hey, that's half!) December is a little like the last month before you start a...

The multicolored sparkle-highlights are pretty scattered. And I think they're more a function of the finish, than actual microparticles. But…I don't know. I could be wrong. The swatch is a macro shot, and I can sort of see faint highlights on the lid. But if it is microparticles, they're definitely not dense enough for this to qualify as a shimmer finish. I like the effect! Enough color highlights to be something other than Another Deep Brown, but not so...

Urban Decay’s 24-7 Eye Pencil in Ether

Not my favorite liner…but not my least favorite, either. The glitter application is a bit on the spottier side, in that it isn't a solid coat of glitter topcoat. But with the underlying blackening being even (even if it's ‘evenly semi-opaque') you get softer definition and the glitter highlights. It's enough glitter to be glammed up, but not enough to look like a circus performer.

Meow Cosmetics’ Brio blush

Meow Cosmetics’ Brio blush

This shade makes a pretty good “neutral” red. It's a nice autumnal blush for people who really can't wear blushes that lean coral, orange, or gold. The blush applies a little softer than it appears in the pot, but at least that means that paler folks won't have to worry too much about accidentally over-applying. The downside is…I don't know how well this would work on deeper skintones. I -=think=- that either layering, or a heavier application...
