Wet n Wild’s Fantasy Makers Multistick collection

Wet n Wild’s Fantasy Makers Multistick collection

I have eyeballed these for years, but abstained because I didn't think that I'd ever actually use them. (I'm not big on actually getting into costume. I'm too lazy.) This year...I finally pulled the trigger. The format is pretty standard jumbo crayon makeup pencil. They're marketed as "face and body crayons", so I don't know if they're eye- or lip-safe. The colors take a bit of time to cure, which means that if you want to apply-and-blend, you've got...

Aromaleigh v2.1’s Love’s Anguish

Aromaleigh v2.1’s Love’s Anguish

The lighter of the two highlighters in this collection, with a pale pink base and a scattered red-gold interference effect. It can be applied more heavily and used as a light-colored eyeshadow, so in my opinion it’s more of a “multipurpose” color. The white base color can look a bit powdery, but when applied wet, it evens out a bit and also can be buffed away.

Kiko Cosmetics’ Long Lasting Stick Shadow in Burgundy (37)

Kiko Cosmetics’ Long Lasting Stick Shadow in Burgundy (37)

Posted on Saturday, at

In 2012, on Twitter, I begged companies to release burgundy eyeliners. Not pink, not red, but burgundy. They listened! (Who am I kidding. It was overall trends, not anything that I said or did. But I’m cheering anyway!!) This is in a stick/crayon form, so if you want a super-thin line you’ll have to use a brush, but I’m still counting this as a “win” for burgundy liners. The application is easy, the color goes on smooth...

Make Up For Ever’s Smoky Lash Mascara in Purple

Make Up For Ever’s Smoky Lash Mascara in Purple

Posted on Friday, at

Why are more companies not releasing medium-deep purple mascara? The color looks closer to “natural” lashes unless or until someone looks closely, but it does have visible coloring. The color is great, but the overall formula is a bit clumpy with two coats, and a bit patchy with one. I’m also not fond of the washable (ie, not waterproof) formula.

Sigil Inspired’s Reflection Catcher

Sigil Inspired’s Reflection Catcher

This color is nice enough, the pigmentation is good, and there is a very soft duotone shimmer effect. But the vendor photos made the duotone look a bit more pronounced. (Even when the foiled swatch was still wet, I couldn’t see as much of the peach-gold shimmer.)

Color Club’s Element of Surprise

Color Club’s Element of Surprise

This color is simlar to China Glaze Pearl Jammin’ (of which I have several bottles.) But…I like Pearl Jammin’ much better. Element of Surprise is still not opaque after three coats! You can clearly see the nail line, and also those areas on my thumbnail where the polish fills in some near-permanent divots. (Those “dents” do eventually grow out, but it’s a months-long process.) The duotone is pretty strong, and looks either more pink or more copper, depending...

Real Techniques’ Starter Set

Real Techniques’ Starter Set

Posted on Tuesday, at

This set didn’t change in composition when the whole Real Techniques line got a makeover. The only change is the case. The material color is different, and the corners are rounded. I like having five eye brushes of varying sizes - all in a collection-price, rather than $5 or more for each individual brush. The bristles on the brow brush are softer than other brow brushes that I’ve used, but they’re a bit large and stiff to easily...

TKB Trading’s Dark Brown Oxide

TKB Trading’s Dark Brown Oxide

Posted on Monday, at

When applied dry, this is a blackened-brown that works very well as a liner. Mixed with water and applied wet, it dries to a medium-dark (almost a medium) that’s definitely brown - so I prefer to apply this one dry. (Usually with these oxides, I prefer to mix them with water.)

Sephora’s Professionnel Airbrush Precision Foundation Brush

Sephora’s Professionnel Airbrush Precision Foundation Brush

I use this more for finishing powder than for foundation; and I apply my (cream) foundation with my fingers. But the bristles are dense, giving the brush head enough body to smoothly and evenly apply cream products over wide areas. It does also work to apply powder products, but you’ll need to use a lighter touch to keep the powder application light.
