Color Club’s Tropical State of Mind

Color Club’s Tropical State of Mind

Looking for a bright orange nail polish? Halloween-orange turned up to 11? This is the one. It’s durable, vivid, and lovely. My one gripe with this polish is that the formula doesn’t self-level as well as many other Color Club creme polishes. With two coats, I still had some thinner spots; and there are visible “bumps” in the manicure.

Color Club’s Beach Break collection

Color Club’s Beach Break collection

Six bright shades that look very “late summer” to me - saturated but not intensely luminous. The two softest shades, Baywatch and Miami Vice, are lighter but not pastels. (Miami Vice could be called a pastel neon if you really wanted to stretch the definition.) Beaches is my favorite shade - perhaps because I don’t have many polishes like it, except Camel Coat from an older China Glaze collection.

Colourpop’s Nothing On kit

Colourpop’s Nothing On kit

I got this kit because I wasn’t interested in purchasing either the brown mascara or the brown highlighter on their own. (This kit saved me one dollar versus buying the items separately…but that counts.) Both items are decent quality, though neither are waterproof. Brownie Points was released with one of Colourpop’s while Grande was added to the BFF Liner lineup a few months later.

Notoriously Morbid’s Nothing is Trivial

Pale aqua-blue base with a smooth, strong gold shimmer layer. While I do have a few other eyeshadows that are similar to this, their shimmer is reddish or the base color is cooler or the base and effect are both much softer. This will really pop dramatically over a darker cream shadow base, and will be more intense over a lighter cream shadow base.

A slightly softened violet base with widely scattered aqua shimmer. I’ve seen this combo with a few other eyeshadows, but they’ve often got a stronger effects layer or at least more of the blue shimmer over the violet base. (Who knew that this would be the final Anniversary Color that Shiro would release?)

Just a little more saturated than Easter-candy purple. I’ve seen a handful of polishes that are a little lighter, but I don’t know if there are too many that are precisely this shade. The formula is very good - applies smoothly, self-levels well, and is just thick enough to fill in smaller ridges in the nail.

Maybelline’s Color Sensational Lipstick in Rebel Pink (815)

Maybelline’s Color Sensational Lipstick in Rebel Pink (815)

There were two pinks in the Loaded Bolds collection…and of course I snagged them. Rebel Pink is almost a hot pink, but it has just a bit more depth than what I would consider “hot pink”. It goes on smoothly and evenly, and lasts a nice amount of time, though it does eventually fade. I’d say that I have worn this lipstick for two hours without the need for touchups.

Maybelline’s Volum’ Express Pumped Up! Colossal Waterproof Mascara

Maybelline’s Volum’ Express Pumped Up! Colossal Waterproof Mascara

Posted on Friday, at

I am not sure how I feel about the Volum’Express mascaras as a collection. For me, some give me more volume while others don’t. This one does give me a bit of volume, and does so without giving me “spider-lashes.” There’s some clumping, but it’s less obvious from a few feet away - as opposed to about a foot, which is how close the camera was to my eye when I took these photos. I do...
