BBAC 2015, Day Twenty-three: Favorite fragrances

BBAC 2015, Day Twenty-three: Favorite fragrances

I chose on my personal scents based on what I like and am willing to pay for regularly. (I'm not all that keen on paying $60+ for a bottle of perfume…mostly because most perfumes that I actually like are either far too strong, or fade away too quickly. After a little bit of experimentation I found what I did and didn't like, and was able to better guesstimate if I'd like a scent or not. I've found that I'll use...

I forget why I initially picked up one of these eyeliners - I think it may have been Highlight, the pink-pearl shade. These pencils are more on the expensive side for drugstore pencils, but they apply as easily as the best UD 24/7 pencils. The collection is small, but the shade selection is pretty good. I might wish for a deep burgundy a black-brown in addition to the colors they have, and it might be interesting to see how their “white”...

BareMinerals’ Buxom Full-on Fix kit

BareMinerals’ Buxom Full-on Fix kit

There have been two of these kits thus far. Both kits have a lip stick or pencil, and a lip gloss or polish. They’re a good way to try out the various lines: you’re paying slightly less than you would pay for one full-size item, and you’re getting a complete, coordinating lip look. I was fond of Acapulco…so much so that when I bought the first set, I didn’t realize that I already owned it...

Makes a great “neutral” with a subtle flash of color. The pearl finish means that it isn't the easiest shade to use as a highlighter…but it does work that way. Thankfully it's not such a reflective pearl that, when I do wear it as an all-over shade, I don't feel the need to try and buff away most of the finish.

I love finding intense red eyeshadows! Not orange-red, not reddish brown, but RED. There seem to be more than there used to be; but it's still always a happy surprise when I stumble across them. I like using this on my outer lid, or along my lash line. This can be blended out, but NOT EASILY! If red eyeshadow is not your thing, you will want to steer clear of this one. But if you've been looking for a red...

BBAC 2015, Day Twenty-one: favorite highlighters and glows

BBAC 2015, Day Twenty-one: favorite highlighters and glows

BareMinerals/Bare Escentuals “radiances” were my first experience with something that was supposed to be a glow powder. Some of them worked for me in their “intended” niche, others I made use of in other ways. Bare Radiance is too dark for my preferences, as a facial powder. On my lids, though, it looks rather nice. And my mom now uses Rose Radiance as her blush - it gives her just enough color and highlight, but not too much. It's...

Concrete Minerals’ Mermaid v2 kit

Concrete Minerals’ Mermaid v2 kit

A repromote-and-expansion of Concrete Minerals’ previous Mermaid kit. This one has the same two colors as before, PLUS Angel Dust and West Coast. I love both of these colors! Well…actually, I love all of these colors. And I already own them all, In addition, since each eyeshadow is $8 and the kit is $32 you’re not getting any savings discount by buying these holiday gift sets. They’re just nice color-quads, ways to pair up Concrete Minerals products.

I was not initially too interested in this kit. The overall palette was a bit too sepia-toned for me, and I tend to prefer clear colors. I also already owned the blush and the lip color, and while I like Lola, she’s just barely too warm for me to reach for every day. I eventually added the two eyecolors to my collection when each of them appeared in other BE kits. For folks who look good in this palette,...

Jordana’s Cat Eye Liner in Black Leather

Jordana’s Cat Eye Liner in Black Leather

Looks like wet leather…even 30 minutes after drying and setting. If you want a black matte liner, this one isn't a good choice, since it's definitely not 100% matte. The color is great, applies very smoothly and is nicely pigmented. It's a little uneven in the swatch, but that's largely due to the nature of the applicator. (And since eyeliner is not usually applied in wide swatches like that…I'm not worried about uneven application.)
