Silk Naturals’ Spring 2018 collection

Silk Naturals’ Spring 2018 collection

I had last checked at Silk Naturals in 2016, I think, so I didn’t see these colors when the collection first came out. I totally missed Guru - one of its major colorants was discontinued by the manufacturer, so it was out of stock by the time I bought these colors in winter 2019. I decided against Crown, since I had enough gold shadows; and by the time I was interested in buying these colors, Ringleader had also been discontinued.

I picked up the three eyeshadows from this collection a few months after its release. They’re darker colors, and two of them are similar enough that I can’t see myself wearing all three of these together…but I do use all three of them. (I passed on the deeper lip and nail colors.) Bad News is a medium-deep red with scattered pink shimmer; Go Away is a deeper slate blue; and Stab You Forever is a brown base...

The gold shimmer isn’t as strong when applied as it looks in the pot…which, to my way of thinking, is a good thing. The deep violet makes a great liner or accent shade, but be aware that this color is pretty pigmented. You’ll only need a small amount, no matter which application method you use.

This isn’t a highlighter, but it could be! I could swear that I have another color from another company that’s almost exactly the same…but when I go searching for it, I can’t find it. I find near-dupes, but either the base color is a little warmer, or the shimmer layer is gold or pink or blue rather than green.

Under indoor lighting, the maroon is the most visible color. You can see the green at the edges, with hints of the copper; but those show up better under natural sunlight. I got full opacity in three coats. The formula is decent, but it does show brushstrokes fairly readily.

This is a cool-ish color, but it leans more red than a purple or cabernet, that many might think of when they think “mulberry.” I was hoping that this would be more purple-leaning; but even so, it’s a nice liner color for me to have. It isn’t the easiest to apply smoothly, though - I couldn’t get a clean sharp edge, and I had to go over places multiple times.

This is a very subtle highlighter. The color is very light, there’s almost no light reflection, and on deeper skintones I would worry that this might look ashy or dusty.

This is almost a pink…but not quite. It’s just a bit too mauvey. It’s a very “floral” color, in my opinion. To me, this is a spring or possibly late winter shade. It’s a good deeper color for people who are very fond of pink, but want something a little deeper that doesn’t veer into “red.” The coverage is fairly good, though this does look better with a decent lipliner as the formula is ever...

BLOOD ORANGE NAIL POLISH!! (Sorry. Just had to get that out.) I initially didn’t care for this color because in the vendor photos, it looked like a deeper orange-y orange. Turns out it’s very close to an orange-red, and deep enough (barely) to be “blood orange”. You can see how smooth and even the formula is. (The uneven bits in my thumbnail are my thumbnail, not the polish. Don’t know why my thumbnail got that dent in...

I don’t know if this can be considered a “neon” polish, but it looks awfully close! It’s a medium bright cool green. The first coat went on a bit patchy, but the second coat gave me full coverage.
