My Pretty Zombie’s Disquiet

My Pretty Zombie’s Disquiet

Posted on Monday, at

I initially wasn't too sure of this color. I had only bought a few shades with My Pretty Zombie, and they ranged from "okay, about average" to "don't love this color" to knocking my socks off (the entire Blue Period trio.) This color is a little greener than it appears on the vendor site, but it's definitely a green-blue, not a green. The color payoff is excellent, either wet or dry application. If you want a similar shade but a...

TKB Trading’s True Green

TKB Trading’s True Green

I admit, my color-comparison language is a little weak when it comes to true greens. Is this kelly? New-leaf? I don't know, and I don't care - this is an absolutely gorgeous shade! Bright jeweltone shimmer, wonderfully rich color, good payoff. This is a straight mica from wholesaler TKB, so don't apply this without a primer or it just won't stay put very long! This is part of the True color collection - these colors are a combination of FD...

There are some reports of malware circulating on Blogger and Blogspot sites. This can happen when someone installs a widget that doesn't come from a trusted source, or that DOES come from a trusted source but pulls in a file from a third source…and that third source gets hacked. This doesn't have anything to do with Blogger as much as it does individual bloggers who just happen to see and install a widget that doesn't play nicely with others....

NYX Cosmetics’ Jumbo Lip Pencil in Soft Fuchsia

NYX Cosmetics’ Jumbo Lip Pencil in Soft Fuchsia

Posted on Friday, at

Once again, NYX's Department of Naming Things leaves me utterly confused. I get the “soft” part of this shade, but…“fuchsia?” Salmon-rose, tanned rose, rose-mauve, sure…but “fuchsia?” From whence did that come??? Despite the name, this color is in the general area of rose-neutral, and looks flattering on me. I get the most mileage out of this on everyday looks. This isn't always easy to find - the shade means that it's one of the colors that people make...

Shiro Cosmetics’ /kiss / Shiro Cosmetics’ Ditto

Shiro Cosmetics’ /kiss / Shiro Cosmetics’ Ditto

This is, in many ways, a fairly straightforward, no-frills, pink. I haven't compared it to the pink from the Kawaii collection, so I don't know how similar they are. What I can tell you is that the finish is a soft satin (not a shimmer, not metallic, not frost), the pigmentation levels are good, and it's neither a pale soft pink nor a super-bright pink. It's a good basic pink with excellent color payoff. Originally released in the My Nerdy...

My Pretty Zombie’s Somnambulent

My Pretty Zombie’s Somnambulent

Muted olive with minimal shimmer. The color payoff is on the lower end of the shades I've purchased from My Pretty Zombie, though it isn't semisheer, and it can be increased. (I barely have patience for two coats of nail polish. Two coats of eyeshadow, I really don't have the patience!) Cooler olives or “khaki” greens look nice on me, provided they aren't too overtly yellow. One of my first makeup purchases had a brighter green that was like neon-meets-olive. ...

TKB Trading’s Midnight Blue

TKB Trading’s Midnight Blue

A little smokier than TKB's Deep Blue - with a bit of a blue-violet shimmer. Another straight mica, so it won't adhere without some help (either a primer or a cream shadow base) it applies fairly smoothly. I get best results from this and just about any other mica if I “stipple” it when applying it dry, and sweep when applying it wet. I love jeweltones, but I also love smokier blues. This isn't quite a smokey shade, but it's...

Zoya’s Lotus

Zoya’s Lotus

When the collection was originally released, I mentally passed on both Lotus and Tru, because while they're prettier colors, I'm not a huge fan of deeper purple nail polishes (completely a personal preference.) Then I saw someone else's swatch photos of Lotus, and liked the base shade: it was a medium smokey purple, not a deep lush violet.
